Protocol Engineer (Mid-Level, 5+ Years) – DeFi Company (Remote, Europe)

About the Role

We’re seeking a Protocol Engineer to design and build high-performance components of a decentralized finance protocol. You’ll work on core logic that directly impacts transaction execution, security, and scalability.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain core protocol components in Rust and/or C++
• Contribute to smart contract architecture and on-chain/off-chain integrations
• Optimize performance for low-latency, high-throughput blockchain systems
• Participate in protocol design discussions and economic modeling
• Collaborate with security teams to audit and harden code

Requirements

• 5+ years of systems or protocol engineering experience
• Strong proficiency in Rust and/or C++
• Experience with blockchain systems (Ethereum, EVM, or similar)
• Understanding of distributed systems and consensus mechanisms
• Familiarity with DeFi primitives (AMMs, lending, staking)

Nice to Have

• Experience with Layer 2 scaling solutions
• Knowledge of cryptographic primitives
• Prior work on open-source blockchain projects
